Agree and I try to heavily limit my time on those examples of the big world
There's another perspective of the big world though which is the grandness of the mountains and planets, the thousands of years it took to accumulate our human knowledge, the millions of years it took to evolve our complex brains, the billions of years it took to create our complex biology
Ha interesting. I think the line I’m drawing between small and big world is experiential vs theoretical/conceptual. I guess you are pointing out that certain kinds of conceptual big worlds are less harmful / more interesting than others. But they are still “less real” and rabbit holes that draw you away from experiential small world.
(you can also argue that there is no qualitative difference between experiential and conceptual if thinking itself is as much of an experience as anything else 😅)
It's so interesting, I wonder if we have different natural tendencies we're trying to balance, or are at different stages of our kids. For me, the big world provides the spirituality perspective and the why, to let go of minor issues or setbacks. Without the larger perspective, I get entangled in my kids' emotions when I should be giving them independence, worked up by local community drama/gossip, or annoyed by my own imperfections.
