Sometimes I ponder insignificance;
each life a shimmer on the tide,
a spark among the stars,
sandcastles, swept away, forgotten.
***
But when you are snuggled against my chest,
tiny paws clasped around my neck,
warmth spilling into my heart,
the abstractions of time and scale dissolve.
***
And the universe folds into a single point:
this moment
where I am your dad,
and you — are my world.
